Carney Mortgage was originally incorporated as Crystal Mortgage and Finance Company, Inc in July of 1998. Crystal was licensed as a Mortgage Lender with the State of Florida until September 1, 2002 when we commenced operations. We moved into larger offices and officially changed our name to Carney Mortgage & Finance Co., Inc. on January 16, 2003. We expanded our staff which includes additional loan executives and loan processor. Thomas F. Carney, Jr. and Peter H. Carney, who are brothers, come from a long history in family banking. Their father, Thomas F. Carney, Sr. started the first commercial bank in North Miami Beach in the early 1960's. As Chairman of the Board, he guided County National Bank in growing from a small community bank to a multi county financial institution with assets over $300 million dollars. County Bank served Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties during its almost forty year history. During the 1980's, the Carney family were the founders and majority shareholders in two other financial institutions. In 1984, both Carney Bank, a state chartered bank and Gibraltar Savings & Loan Association were organized and served all three counties. Thomas F. Carney, Jr., at various times of Carney Banks history, served as a member of the board of directors, legal counsel and President. He also served on Gibraltar's Board of Directors and was legal counsel and represented Gibraltar in real estate closings. In addition Mr. Carney served on County Bank's Board of Directors. Peter H. Carney started his career as a tax specialist for Peat Marwick. He then became Deputy Counsel & Director of Financial Administration for the office of the Treasurer of Massachusetts. In 1994, he founded Carney Legal Group P.A. with his brother, Thomas F. Carney, Jr., and a year later they formed a title insurance company (Crystal Title & Escrow Co., Inc). As indicated above, together, Peter and Thomas formed Carney Mortgage & Finance Co., Inc. and, shortly Carney Select Properties, Inc., a licensed Florida Real Estate brokerage company. As mentioned above the Carney family had been involved in all aspects of banking for a long time. In 1997 County Bank was sold to Republic Security Bank which was subsequently purchased by Wachovia Bank and their direct involvement came to a successful end. This was the driving force for entering into private lending. Lending which the family has successfully in pursued all those years. Carney Mortgage anticipates opening an office in the New England area shortly after being approved to market mortgage brokerage services. The Carney family has its roots in Lawrence, Massachusetts and has maintained businesses in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut from the early 1970's to the present.
